Do a quick Google search for the term ‘self-empowerment’ and you’ll see thousands of articles on what it means to ‘find yourself’ or to ‘live your best life.’ Unfortunately, these terms are now buzzwords that add unneeded pressure on us to live, act, and feel a certain way.

At the core, though, self-empowerment stems from something beautiful. It’s both a belief and a perspective of learning to love ourselves—even in our mistakes, our messiness, and our imperfections.

In the fitness world, self-empowerment is understanding that we are all works in progress, and that’s a beautiful thing. It’s about throwing away the unrealistic expectations for looking a certain way, dropping weight, or following some ‘ideals’ set by the world.

Self-empowerment is about celebrating our journey, while simultaneously pushing to be better. And it’s not apologizing for where we are on our journeys, because everyone is different (and that’s okay).

Here are six empowering sentences to speak over yourself, no matter where you are in your fitness and wellness journey.

1. I am a beautiful work in progress.

This sentence is about understanding that it’s okay if you haven’t gotten to where you want to be yet. No matter how much you accomplish or overcome, life will always hand you obstacles. That’s life.

You have to acknowledge how far you’ve come, while also giving yourself space to continue forward. You will get to where you want to be, but so much of your ‘success’ stems from patience in the process.

2. I am getting where I need to be.

Your journey may be fast, or it may be slow. There might be days where you jump fully ahead, and days where you lag behind. It’s not about comparing yourself to the people around you. It’s about finding your own pace and honoring it.

3. I can overcome anything I set my mind to.

What you believe, you set into motion. If you constantly encourage yourself, you will feel not only more motivated, but you will move towards the things you desire with less resistance.

Understand that your mind is a powerful tool. It guides your body. You must manifest positive beliefs in order to get you to a space of growth.

4. I am powerful—physically, mentally, and emotionally.

You are strong, stronger than you think. When you set your mind intentionally on where you want to be, you empower yourself to get there even quicker.

Regardless of what you’ve faced in the past, you must choose to focus on all that you’ve overcome. Think of where you started—you are no longer in that place and that is something to be proud of!

Speak strength to your heart, your mind, and your soul. Then walk in it.

5. I am stronger than my fears.

Fear can be something that holds you back, or it can be a catalyst for change.

Tell yourself that you are stronger than what scares you, stronger than what attempts to hold you back. If you believe you can overcome things, you will. Fear is largely dependent upon your perspective.

6. I am loved.

There is a community who believes in you at Synergy. There are people not only there to train you, to walk beside you, and to support you, but there are also people facing their own battles and fears.

Know that within this space you are welcomed and loved. People care about you and want to see you succeed—open yourself to them.
